I started my academic career studying medieval literature and French literature at UC Berkeley (Go Bears!). After graduating with my BA, I worked with the California State Senate and in legal offices. Although I enjoyed my work, my ever-present love and curiosity about science, animals, and history was not being fed. As a result I decided to return to school to earn a MSc in Zooarchaeology at The University of York in the UK. After completing my degree, I returned to the US and found work in CRM while volunteering my zooarchaeological skills with the Gault School of Archaeological Research (GSAR), then housed at Texas State University, San Marcos. GSAR was eventually able to bring me aboard full time, and I worked with them to apply a proteomic method of taxonomic identification to faunal material from the Gault Site.
My work in proteomics led me to pursue my doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin’s Jackson School of Geosciences. I completed my Ph.D. in December 2024.
